American Bulldog Pictures

In the American Bulldog pictures, you’ll see muscular and agile animals that look much slender than their ancestors – Old English Bulldogs. The American Bulldog originates in the USA; its other name is the Old County Bulldog. This breed has no AKC recognition, but it can be registered by the ABA (American Bulldog Association,) ARF (Animal Research Foundation,) NKC (National Kennel Club,) and UKC (United Kennel Club.) The UKC classifies the breed as Guardian Dogs.

American Bulldog pictures feature dogs of various sizes, since there is no strict size regulation for this breed. American Bulldogs stand from 50 to 71 cm (20-28 inches) at the withers and weigh from 27 to 60 kg (75-125 lbs.) There are two types of the American Bulldog: the Classic (Bully or Johnson) and the Standard (performance or Scott.) They vary slightly in appearance and working abilities.

Though in most American Bulldog pictures, you’ll see friendly, happy, and kind-hearted dogs, the image of this breed in public is that of a fierce and blood-thirsty fighting dogs. Actually, the American strain of the Bulldog maintained the utilitarian purpose of the breed and undergone very little modification compared to the present-day English Bulldog. The settlers of the American South took large and strong Bulldogs with them not because of their aggression, but because of their working abilities. American Bulldogs helped early settlers herd the cattle and guard the houses. They were devoted and reliable working dogs.

The American Bulldog of today is no longer a fighter, but an affectionate and gentle pet. The breed has undergone much transformation due to the efforts and devotion of many breeders who turned a fighting dog into a family companion. For preserving the wonderful personality of the American Bulldog, it’s very important to buy purebred dogs from responsible breeders only. Those who care about the future of the breed in general will not try to attract impulsive buyers, but will sell their dogs only to the right owners who are ready to own a large and strong animal. Prior to purchasing an American Bulldog, it’s essential to learn much on the breed. Seeing American Bulldog pictures and reading a brief breed description is not enough to getting to know the breed.
