Bulldog Adoption
Bulldog adoption is even a more serious responsibility than buying a dog from a breeder. Bulldogs are very devoted animals; they miss their owners much and suffer from separation anxiety. If surrendered to the rescue for the second time, a dog of this breed will be very depressed.
Bulldog adoption is impossible if you have no proper living conditions, dog ownership experience, and know nothing on the breed. Prior to adoption, all perspective owners are screened carefully. They have an interview with a rescue worker and a home visit to make sure they are ready to own a Bulldog. Every adopter has to pay a donation fee.
Bulldog adoption is an easy and cheap opportunity to obtain a purebred dog. There are many high quality dogs in rescues surrendered because of financial or personal problems of their owners. Such dogs may even come from champion bloodlines and may be given all necessary training. If a conscientious owner surrenders a dog, it will make a good pet for another owner. Rescues offer mostly adult and senior dogs for adoption. Puppies are surrendered very rarely, because they are so funny that their owners put up with their bad habits. When an untrained puppy grows up, it becomes difficult to control and live with. Though the Bulldog in general is very intelligent and responsive to training, it’s impossible to get an obedient dog without daily exercise and training sessions.
Unfortunately, there are unwanted dogs that have been given up to rescues because of their bad temperament and behavior problems. It often happens when a purebred dog is bought on impulse and the owner doesn’t know how to train it. Lack of proper training often results in bad habits and aggression in dogs. If the owner doesn’t have enough time to devote to the dog, it will be difficult to control. Purebred dogs produced by irresponsible breeders often end up in rescues, because they are prone to a number of hereditary disorders that are difficult to cure. Bulldogs from irresponsible breeders and owners need rehabilitation in foster families. Considering Bulldog adoption, keep it in mind.
