Bulldogs Breeders - Health Problems

Like all purebred dogs, Bulldogs are prone to several hereditary disorders. When buying a puppy, ask the breeder about problems in this particular line. Even if both parents are healthy, the puppy can suffer from diseases inherited several generations back. So, prior to purchasing a dog, have a look at the health certificate and the pedigree. The average lifespan of this breed is 8-10 years, which is rather short as compared to other breeds.

Among typical kinds of the breed health problems, the most serious are: Stenotic Nares, Elongated Soft Palate, Tracheal Stenosis, and eye problems. Heat strokes are frequent in these dogs, so you should not keep them in hot climates. Be careful not to overfeed your Bulldog because this breed is prone to obesity, especially in their old age. Another problem is giving birth. Almost all bitches require cesarean section because birth puppies have very large heads.

Bulldogs don't require any cosmetic surgery; their ears remain uncropped, their tail undocked and their dew claws intact. Their toenails should be trimmed regularly as well as their ears and face wrinkles need frequent cleaning. To keep their coat clean and glossy, Bulldogs require occasional baths.
